My first Post

Its 2:14 am and here I am creating a blog, listening to a nice melodious hindi tune playing in the back, trying to figure out what led me to create this blog.

Its 2:15 am now,I have figured it out-THAT THERE'S NOTHING TO FIGURE OUT :-),I just created a blog because I felt like it. It's amazing how we tend to over-complicate things a lot.Sometimes the most obvious answer is the RIGHT ANSWER !!!!,unfortunately many times we tend to neglect what's been there in front of us all through out. We tend to look so many other ways ,without looking the simplest way,the right way.

Anyway this blog is going to be a really random blog, not particularly about anything or anyone, just generally about stuff I find interesting, which may include my life from time to time.

So last night I was watching The Godfather for the first time(yes, unbelievable,I know) on my PC,and you know I actually have to sit on a chair to watch a movie on my PC,because of topographical issues so generally I end up seeing just half of a movie and closing it,coz i get too tired. But with the godfather,I hardly moved from my chair. It was without a doubt, the best movie I have watched.

For those of you unfamiliar with the plot, the movie revolves around the Corleones, a Sicilian family and its head Don Vito Corleone(The Godfather). Now most guys would just after hearing the name Corleone immediately term them as gangsters and typecast them as "bad forces" in the universe.

But the movie(and the book,of course),really forces you to think, what exactly is Right or Wrong.Who defines Right or Wrong?.After all a positive consequence for a single person in the universe, will always lead to a negative consequence for some other person in the universe.Shouldn't it then be justified to use whatever means to ensure that you and your loved ones are on the happier side of the bargain?.

The Don's intentions are good,he always wants good for his family and friends, but yet the common man who hasn't interacted with him will always term him as a "Gangster",why ??....Because his means to achieve his good intentions dont conform to what we percieve as "Right".

By the end of the movie/book,I end up admiring the Corleones, because as a family they stick together through the tough times, and NEVER I mean NEVER does any Corleone break his word. The Don and his family commands respect, and rightly so because they never let go of their friends no matter how small or big they are in stature, whether it be a baker,an undertaker,or a judge, the Corleone association once forged is for life.

By the end of the movie ,I just end up thinking that someday hopefully, I will be able to follow my principles like The Godfather.Because a principled man has the greatest wealth of all,
he has....RESPECT.

I unfortunately disagree with you. You are being puerile. Life (Human Life) cant be brought under the crude justification of "Conservation of Entropy"!
And besides it cant be so that a positive consequence (which I infer as something that logically or naturally follows from a good deed by someone) will necessarily involve harming (negative consequence) someone else.

Right and wrong I agree are relative but it must be remembered that "Right" is what is in general does good to the majority (the human race I am referring to and the common man you are reffering to) not some specific group. Like the Corleones family you mentioned as in The Godfather.

Yes I fully agree with you that a principled man has the greatest wealth of all. Principles here I consider being true to self, but even a simple thought can bring to us the conclusion that the mere purpose of being principled is defeated if we restrict to be principled only to "family". If being principled can do good to "family" then why not the whole mankind. Why don't we show the same amount of bonding /stickiness to the all rather than the family.

I do not intend to criticize you, these are just my thoughts, may be wrong.
A great post I must say, really made me ponder!!

Grivan, first of all, amazing use of words ,to bring forth my point.

What I am trying to say is that, and this is a pessimistic view,NEVER and I mean NEVER can there ever be a action that will benefit entire MANKIND.An action might intend to do so,but it never achieves that.I am not even saying a majoirity benefits,I am saying there always be the same number of people in the long run who will benefit or lose from a action.

The Godftaher helps whoever comes to him from help,he's just looking out for himself and his friends.I agree thats not the majoirity, but I feel he has every right to do so,because in the end its a dog-eat-dog world, someone steps over you always to reach to the top.Let's face it we are not equal, and its every man for himself.

Read the book and tell me if you get my view.I respect your opinion though, its backed by substantial reasoning.Keep reading and commenting :-)

nice post! interesting point of views have been put forth by both you and grivan! liked it, but i belong to the minor (almost unheard of?) category of people who have neither read the book or seen the movie...
sticking up for family and friends is one thing, but the means to attain that have to be justified. Holding people ransom to fulfill one's financial needs, to kill for money or pride etc are things that are not justifiable, irrespective of who you are and what you do....
a more critical analysis once i go through the movies! (you don't think i'll ever read the books, do you? :-) )
cheers! and keep writing!!

You must be a hardcore Charles Darwin fan! "Survival of the Fittest".
The phrase "Dog Eat Dog World" not only sounds absurd literally but also is demeaning and demoralising in its real sense (suprisingly ,although, to some extent I too belive in this wierd fact). We are being constantly fed this crap from people around us and like a parrot we rote learn it without even thinking of its implications. This is kind of a chain rection spreading out.(dont know why but having loads amount of Gibbs free positive enregy!!)
Yes I agree a Race for the Top does a good job of development but it should not overcome you, twisting your mind and refraining you from arriving at a good reason.
There are some people world who still love to love all atleast for them we ought to retain the "right" part of ours! Do use your torchlight always before stepping on anyone for the top. It might just (definately) stop this stupid chain reaction.

I will surely read the book and think over your pessimistic view.
